Magic Tricks Meet Nintendo DS - Master Of Illusion
This is Magic could not resist having a look at the new Nintendo DS game that they recently released. Why you ask? Well, easy, it’s a game about magic tricks, so naturally we had to take a look. What does Nintendo know about magic tricks and how could they make this into one of their games? Well, let us tell you all about it.
Is this for the serious magician?
Ok, right off the hop we are going to tell you, this probably will not impress the serious magicians out there, but it still is a fun little prop to carry around to add to your bag of tricks. For kids especially, every kid probably knows all about Nintendo DS so they will instantly want to see what kind of magic tricks you can perform with this gaming system.
What can you do with this thing?
Alright, so let’s get strait to the point. Master of Illusion does have some pretty neat tricks. Nintendo is pretty creative and makes learning the tricks easy and fun to perform.
Ok first in "Two Candles, the kids love this one, the screen displays two burning candles and by blowing into the DS microphone, a spectator extinguishes the flames. Later, you ask a spectator to choose a candle by pointing at it with their finger (pointing is employed because the DS could, in theory, rely on voice recognition to figure out which candle was chosen). By blowing again, only the selected candle is extinguished. Simple, but very visual for your spectators.
Another fun one for the kids is “Mystic Hand” which allows a spectator to draw a cartoon hand on the DS and then point to one of three objects on the upper. The drawn hand then animates and “grabs” the selected object. This again, is very visual and fun to watch.
Ok, one more for you called “Wise Eyes”. Not to sound like a broken record, but great reactions for the kids. They get to draw the eyes, nose and mouth first. Then they place an object, like a coin somewhere around the DS game. You then instruct “Wise Eyes” to find where they put the object. Wise Eyes will move his eyes around until he actually finds it.
There is a lot more!
There are a lot more magic tricks that are offered than what we just told you about. These get unlocked as you play and practice more and more. The more you practice, the more points you receive, which in the end unlocks more neat magic tricks.
Overall
The Team at This is Magic was impressed with this “game”, if you really want to call it a game. We actually had a lot of fun playing with it and got some great reactions, even with the older crowd. But we would recommend performing this with the younger ones as they would be more drawn to the graphics and visual effects.
We are also impressed on how the game emphasizes you to practice the magic tricks and rewards you the more you practice.
